‘Suma Oriental’ refers to the brilliant collection of writings by Tomé Pires, a Portuguese apothecary who became ambassador to China in the 16th century. The very first description of an insular southeast Asia written by a European, ‘Suma Oriental’ revealed that sandalwood originated in the Sumba islands and Timor en Insulide (modern day Indonesia and East Timor).
His work inspired renowned perfumer Coty to create the 1934 fragrance ‘A Suma’, which evoked the moonlit beaches of Bali. 'Suma Oriental is a mesmerizing scent that enhances Patchouli in lush agreement with wooded and creamy notes.
